What are soap nuts?

Soap Nuts or better called Soap Berries are a sustainable natural resource that grows wild from the Sapindus Tree mostly found in India, Nepal and Indonesia. The sun dried fruit shell has been used for centuries by local communities as a laundry detergent and cleanser.

Soap Nuts are wild harvested, meaning they are gathered from wild trees by local communities and grown without any kind of chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides.

How do they work?

Soap nuts contain saponin, a natural cleaner that works as a surfactant, breaking the surface tension of the water to penetrate the fibres of your clothing lifting stains from the fabric and leaving dirt suspended in the water that is rinsed away. They are very effective in removing soil and odours while leaving fabrics soft and absorbent. So gentle, they are superb for delicate fabrics. And no need to add fabric softener as your laundry will come out soft and fluffy! That's because during the rinse cycle a small amount of saponin is released opening up the fabric fibres acting as a natural fabric softener instead of leaving a residue.

Because it is a natural soap it will not leave a grime on the fabrics as you would expect with regular detergent, making them a great choice for sensitive skin.

Other advantages from using soap nuts are:

Fragrance free

Works in any temperature

Ideal for cloth cotton diaper laundering

Imported only from Fair Trade, Co-op suppliers

Used in Ayurveda medicine to treat skin problems
